Isabella Wood MELDRUM. Nursing Sister 9 Nurses/M185 TFNS. Attached to 4th Scottish General Hospital
Born 1874 baptised 14 January 1874 in Everton Lancashire to Peter and Isabella Meldrum, formerly Aitken of 21 Clarence Grove, Liverpool.
Scottish 1881 census, with her parents and siblings at 22 Eldon Street, Greenock West, Renfrewshire. 1891 census, with her mother at 29 Ardgowan Street, Greenock. 1901 Residing at 42 Hill Street, Glasgow, with her sister Mary. She was head of the house aged 26 and was a boarding house keeper.
She died at 06-30 am of acute pneumonia in Ruchill Fever Hospital, Glasgow the 02 February 1918 aged 41 A gratuity was granted 14 May 1918 to her half sister Mrs Mary Lawson revised 21 February 1920.
At rest in Greenock Cemetery, Renfrewshire.
Commemorated on the Scottish Nurses Memorial at St Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh

Isabella or Isabella Wood Meldrum of 12 Ure Place Glasgow died 2 February 1918 at Glasgow, testate. Confirmation granted at Glasgow 27 March to Mary Aitken of Lawson, 12 Ure Place aforesaid, her half sister. Executrix nominated in Will or Deed dated 3 March 1913 and recorded in Court Books of Commissariot of Lanark 19 March 1918. Value of Estate £411. 19s. 5d

Mobilised (called up) for duty at 4th Scottish General Hospital, Stobhill Glasgow.
Full extract from a letter written the Principal Matron, E.V. Thomson T.F.N.S 4th Scottish General Hospital, R.A.M.C. date stamped 02 February 1918 to the Officer Commanding (the same hospital.
“Dear Madam.
I have to report to you that one of our sisters Miss Isobel Meldrum T.F.N.S. died at 6-30 this morning. On Friday 25 January this member reported unable for duty on the account of acute pain between the shoulders also headaches and general discomfort. The Medical Office was notified and after examining her prescribed (Medication was not stated ) for the acute symptoms. On Saturday 26th her condition became more alarming and later cerebro-spinal fever was suspected. She was then removed to Ruchill Fever Hospital and already stated, died there at 6-30am on 2nd February”.
