Born 1923, younger son of James Stilwill and Annie Munce of Holywood, County Down.
Student of Queens University
He was part crew of ten in a Liberator GR. VIKG13 bomber which took off Lagens, Azores 0554 on the 8 March 1945, detailed to carry out an air-sea rescue mission. The starboard outer propeller struck the runway during take-off. The aircraft swung violently to the right and crashed in flames before the pilot had time to regain control, killing eight and seriously injuring two. He was aged 23.
Commemorated on a family plot in Holywood Cemetery, Holywood, County Down.
At rest in Lajes War Cemetery, Terceira, Azores.
