Soldier Drowned in Black-out.
A verdict of “Accidental drowned” was returned at an inquest at York yesterday on Driver Hugh E Reid (33) of the Royal Engineers.
In summing up the Coroner (Colonel Innes Ware) said he felt sure that in the black-out Reid had got on to Queen’s Staith and not knowing the district had fallen into the river. Harry Benson of Main Street Fulford York stated that when dredging in the Ouse he found the body near a wharf. Dr S.M. Bademan said the body had been in the water between a month and six weeks.
