Captain, Hugh Bernard MONTGOMERY, 3rd Guards. Entered the regiment March 28, 1811, served in the Peninsular Campaign from April 1813 to the end of the war. He was severely wounded at Barroulhet during the operations on the Nive, December 12, 1813. He was also wounded at Waterloo, June 18th 1815 and was present with the army of occupation in Paris. Born August 28, 1790 died in London May 2, 1817 and is buried in the cemetery of St James's parish, Westminster.
This tablet is dedicated to his memory by his brother, Colonel Francis Octavius Montgomery. A D 1879
(He was the son of Reverend, Hugh Montgomery and Emila, nee Ward of Grey Abbey) It appears that he may have died from blood poising. He was shot twice his lower leg from musket balls, which slightly wounded him. His leg did not heal but he was able to travel from Brussels, to Paris and then London where his leg became swollen and inflamed which may have been gangrene, but he did of his wounds.
He was ensign 28th March 1811, Lieutenant and Captain 9th June 1814
