WOOD Hugh Arthur Guardsman 2903, 1st Welsh Guards died 29th August 1921 aged 34. He was the husband of Alice Hannah of 43, Shaw Street, Newchurch. He is at rest in Newchurch, churchyard, Culcheth, Lancashire. He is at rest in Newchurch, churchyard, Culcheth, Lancashire .
Some notes from what remains of his army record. He enlisted on the 11th December 1915 aged 28 years and 278 days and he was transferred to the army reserve. He lived at 208 Warrington Road, Glazebury, near Culcheth and his occupation was a grocers assistant. He was married on the 12th August 1914. He was posted for duty on the 4th July 1916 to Caterham. On the 9th June 1917 he embarked from Southampton and disembarked at Le Harve the next day. Whilst in France he was admitted to 3rd Field Ambulance and on the 1st March 1918 he was transferred to 12th Field Ambulance suffering from Pleurodynia. On the 16th March 1918 he was discharged fit for service with his regiment. On the 9th of August 1918 he was granted leave to England and returned to France on the 23rd August 1918. On the 16th March 1919 he embarked Dunkirk for England and the next day he was at Ranelagh Camp, Barnet. He was again admitted to hospital this time at The Lord Derby War Hospital, Warrington, Lancashire on the 14th November 1919 suffering from Bronchitis and was discharged from hospital on the 5th December 1919. On the 2nd January 1920 he was transferred to Army Reserve Class Z.
