Contemporary ms account (6pp) by a Staff Sergeant Milburn RAMC describing an incident in the Mediterranean on 25 February 1917 when HM hospital ship DUNLUCE CASTLE, in which he was serving as an orderly, was forced to stop by a German submarine which fired several warning shots at her and preparations were hastily made for abandoning ship, but in the event the DUNLUCE CASTLE was allowed to continue her passage to Gibraltar after the ship's papers had been taken to the submarine commander for examination.
