- (Bert) Herbert Alfred CHARLTON. Retired Major, Royal Engineers died 4 December 1984 aged 77. Husband of Emily Gwendoline, nee Prickett who died in 1993. He came up through the ranks as from Sapper 6283027 to Lance Sergeant . Lieutenant 1945, Major 1953. He lived at The Retreat, 2 Loop Road, Beachley, near Chepstow. Son of Alfred George and Ellen Fanny Charlton, nee Harvey of (1911) 2 Park Road, Faversham, Kent . His father was a bricklayer. At rest in Beachley Military Cemetery, Gloucestershire
