Henry HINETT

Henry HINETT. Corporal WR/251262, 112th Railway Coy, Royal Engineers died 1st March 1919 aged 46 at 36 Charles Street, Crewe. Awarded the Territorial Force Efficiency Medal. He was native of Worcester and husband of Alice Hinett, of 36, Charles Street, Crewe. Served in the South African Campaign. He was married Mrs Alice McBride, widow, nee McGurk, at Nantwich, Cheshire Registry Office on the 11th April 1896. At rest in Crewe Cemetery, Cheshire.

He re-joined on the 2nd November 1914 age 38 and 11 months at Crewe, occupation, railway platelayer, and his lived at 36 Charles Street, Crewe.. He had previously served with the Royal Engineers as Sapper 8546 and was the holder of the South African Medal, and the Queens South African, Cape Colony, Orange Hall State, Transvaal and South Africa 1901-1902. On the 3rd November 1914 he was promoted to Corporal and transferred the same day to 110th and later to 112th Railway Coy. On the 15th February 1915 he was posted to France and while in action he was gassed by shell on the 26th July 1917 and was treated at 8th Stationary Hospital the following day. There is no record of his movement after that with ref to his treatment. He was granted home leave on the 1st January 1919, while at home he took ill and was being looked after by Doctor Bailey of Havelock House, Mill Street, Crewe. He died at his home on the 1st March 1919 of pneumonia, aggravated by the condition of his lungs which were damaged by his gassing while at the front in France.
