Harry THORLEY

Extended Description
Private 12890 Harry THORLEY. 8th North Staffordshire Regiment, Killed in action 18th November 1916 in Flanders. Native of Longton, Staffordshire. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France, also commemorated on a Poppy Cross at Blythe Bridge War Memorial, 8th November 2015.
Some notes from what remains of his army record.
He joined up on the 23rd September 1914 at Lichfield, Staffordshire aged 28 years and 6 months. Occupation, carter and lived at 34 March Street, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent with his wife and children. He was posted at Private 12890, New Line Battalion, North Staffordshire Regiment Depot, At some stage posted to join the 8th Battalion in France. The 18th November 1916 he was reported missing presumed killed. He married Gertrude (known as Gerty) Allen on the 15th October 1910 at Stoke-on-Trent Registry Office. They hade the following children. Pattie born 6th March 1911, Winnifred May born 18th June 1912. Marion, born 1913. Died on the 12th December 1915 aged 2 at the Joint Hospital Bucknall, Stoke-on-Trent of Scarlatina Angimoas (Scarlet Fever) This causes extensive neurosis and ulceration of the throat. She was living at 34, Marsh Street.
Harry, born 18th February 1886, son of John and Martha nee Myatt of Forsbrook, near Blythe Bridge, Staffordshire.
