(information taken from his Burnt Record) Private 55160 Devonshire Regiment and Private 342347, 169th Labour Corps (Southern Command Labour Corps). Enlisted 16th February 1917 aged 27yrs and 10 months, occupation farmer of Shurdington House, Shurdington near Cheltenham, Gloucestershire another address found was Hill View, Shurdington. He was the son of James Hitch. He was discharged from the army no longer physically fit at an Army Medical Board, Winchester on the 14th December 1917. He was posted to france with the B.E.F. from 8th March 1917 to 9th April 1917
