- Harry KITCHEN, Sapper, 64736, 13th Signal Coy., Royal Engineers. Died of wounds 2nd September 1915, aged 22 years in Cottonera Military Hospital, Malta from injuries received at Mesopotamia. Son of Thomas and Rose Annie Kitchen, of 46 Wellington Road North, Stockport.
Some notes from what remains of his Army records.
He joined up on the 15th January 1915 aged 21 years and 100 days. Lived with his parents 46 Wellington Street, North and was by occupation a telegraphist. He was posted the R.E. Depot. On the 14th June 1915 he was posted to Mesopotamia where on the 20th June 1915 transferred to 13th Signal Coy, Royal Engineers at Mesopotamia. On the 28th August 1915 while serving with the 85th Signal Coy, Royal Engineers he was shot and wounded in his left knee. At some stage he was invalided to Malta on a hospital ship. On the 1st September 1915 he was admitted into Cottonera Military Hospital, Malta where he died the following day from his wounds.
Joseph WALKER, Private, 11554, 6th King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment. Died of wounds 1st September 1915 at Malta from injuries received at Mesopotamia. His widow, Euphemia nee Weddell was granted a war gratuity on the 17th December 1915.
Harry RIDDLE, Private, 9251, 9th Lancashire Fusiliers. Died of wounds 31st August 1915 at Malta from injuries received at Gallipoli. Son of Sarah who was granted a war gratuity on the 21st December 1915.
