Harry Fielder MERRETT. Lance Corporal 74498, 29th Coy Machine Gun Corps. Born 1886 to Henry Fielder and Constance Kate Merrett, nee Butt of Lystonville, Bishop's Cleeve. 1891 residing with his parents and siblings at Putter Court, Moreton Valence, Glos. Enlisted into the army prior to the 1st World War and joined the 3/1Scottish Horse as Private 5021, He rejoined (embodied service) 12 November 1915 and was transferred into the Machin Gun Corps as Lance Corporal 74498 on the 5 September 1916. After he had completed his training, he embarked from Devonport 19 September 1916, disembarked Salonika, 1. October 1916. He disembarked Salonika 19 September 1917, disembarked at Alexandria 29. September 1917. He fell ill on the 19 October 1917and was admitted to hospital at Port Said, 4 November 1917 he was in hospital in Cairo. Both time suffering from malaria. 3 August 1919 he was posted back to England for demobilisation. 17 September 1919 he was discharged from the army to his home at Bishops Cleeve. Died from malaria followed by pneumonia at his home as the result of active war service 2 October 1919 aged 33. At Rest in St Michael and All Angels churchyard, Bishop's Cleeve, Gloucestershire.
