The stone was raised by the people of Grenhow Hill Parish
and their friends in grateful memory of all who
served their country for God, King and Country
in the Great War 1914-1919
for right and freedom

killed in action 13th November 1916 age 23. Son of Martha Busfield of Low Farsipe, Greenhow Hill, Pateley Bridge, Yorkshire. Buried at Euston Road Cemetery, Colincamps, France

MARSHALL Horace, Private 3718, 1/6th Duke of Wellingtons West Riding Regiment killed in action 16th July 1915 age 24. Son of Arthur William and Anne Marshall of 3, Waterloo Terrace, Bramley, Leeds. Buried at Colne valley Cemetery, Belgium

NEWBOLD William, Private 19104, 3rd Coldstream Guards killed in action 28th March 1918 age 25. Native of Pateley Bridge Yorkshire and son of Albert and Polly Newbould of Old Church Lane, Pateley Bridge Buried at Douchy-Les-Ayette British Cemetery, France
[Note, the CWGC have his surname spelt as Newbould which is correct]

SWALES Herbert, Lance Corporal C/12972, 21st Kings Royal Rifle Corps killed in action 7th October 1916 age 25. Son of Thomas and Isabel Swales of Mill Yard, Pateley Bridge, Yorkshire. and brother of Leonard who also fell. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France

SWALES Leonard, Private 3638, Prince of Wales 1/5th West Yorkshire Regiment died of wounds 7th August 1916 age 20. Son of Thomas and Isabel Swales of Bents Farm, Pateley Bridge, Yorkshire. Buried at Pateley Bridge, Cemetery

WHITEHEAD Thomas, Private 267162, 2/6th Duke of Wellingtons West Riding Regiment, killed in action 2nd December 1917 age 23. Native of Pateley Bridge and son of Mary [widowed 1901] and the late Thomas of Greenhow Hill Yorkshire Buried at Lebucquiere Communal Cemetery Extension, France
