Leading Aircraftman, (U/T Pilot) 1263121 Gordon James BURKLE, Royal Air Force, pilot, 6 Flying Training School at RAF Little Rissington Born 1916 at Edmonton, London to Charles Robert and Claire Louise Clementine Burkle, nee Barron 1910 His parents were married 10 September 1910 at St Mary Church, Finchley. His father aged 29 was residing at 7 Harrington Street, of Hampstead Road, Camden, London
He married Sylvia Patricia Sweet in Barnet, Middlesex in 1939. Before being called up for service he was a manager and buyer for a plywood business and served as an Air Raid Protection Warden. 23 May 1941 he was the pilot of an Airspeed Oxford Mk 11 V3777 when he was in collision with another Oxford and crashed near Little Rissington airfield, he was aged 25. Leading Aircraftman Brian Richards (below) piloting the other Oxford was also killed and is buried in Helston, Cornwall.
