Gladys Corfield HUGHES. Staff Nurse 2nd Res/H1050 QAIMNSR.
Born 11 June 1889 at Nantmawr to Thomas and Martha Titley Hughes, nee Corfield of Cambria House, Nantmawr, Shropshire. 1891 census with her parents and siblings at Cambria House. 1901 census with her parents and siblings at Nantmawr Shropshire. Welsh 1911 census. Visiting the home of M K Dine Eleby. Occupation aged 22, Boarding house keeper. She contracted the flue whilst nursing in the Royal Herbert Hospital Woolwich and died 6 November 1918 aged 29 at 03.10am of influenza and pneumonia and abscess on her left ear. Her mother was at her bedside when she died. Her body was conveyed from London to Gobowen for burial. She was given full military honours.
Her father was granted a war gratuity 26 June 1919 revised 27 April 1920

Trained at Mill Road Infirmary Liverpool 02 May 1912 – 02 May 1915. Posted 14 March 1915 to Lord Derby War Hospital, Warrington.
Joined up 14 January 1916, mobilised 16th March and posted to Chiseldon Camp, Military Hospital, Swindon Wiltshire. 10 November 1916 embarked from England disembarked in France the same day and was posted to No 9 General Hospital, Rouen.
31 May 1917 in No 8 General Hospital, Rouen.
03 July 1917 appointed Sister. London Gazette dated 05 September 1917.
25 August 1917 Transferred from France to Home Establishment.
19 September 1917 posted to 2nd Birmingham War Hospital and was transferred 19 February 1918 to Napsbury Hospital. Hertfordshire (k/a in WW1 as the County of Middlesex War Hospital, which treated wounded soldiers)
24 October posted to Royal Herbert Hospital, Woolwich.
