George William HOGG. James Edward EASTWOOD. Albert Henry HORTON.

Extended Description
HOGG George William. Gunner, 91136, 63rd Coy, Royal Garrison Artillery, died 26th September 1916, aged 30 years Valletta Military Hospital in Malta. The son of William Hogg and the late Jessie Hogg, of Aimsfield Mains, Haddington, East Lothian. The husband of Isabella Williamson Johnston Hogg, of 12 Dalgety Avenue, Edinburgh.

EASTWOOD James Edward. Private, M2/052665, 244th Mechanical Transport Coy, Royal Army Service Corps, died 22nd September 1916, aged 32 years. He was the husband of Annie Elizabeth nee Cawley who was granted a war gratuity on the12th June 1917.

HORTON Albert Henry. Private, 18312, 2nd East Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 7899 North Staffordshire Regiment, died 21st September 1916 in Military Hospital, Tigne, Malta of malaria. Native of Handsworth, Birmingham and son of Edward and Fanny. In 1911 his father was a widower and was living at Court 2, House no 3, Brearley Street, Handsworth.
Some notes from what remains of his army records.
He joined the Special Reserves on the 29th September 1913 and was posted as Private 7899, North Staffordshire Regiment. On the 28th February 1914 he was transferred to the Army Reserve. Mobilized on the 5th August 1914 and posted to the East Yorkshire Regiment as Private 18312. After he had completed he embarked to join the British Expeditionary Force, France on the 8th May 1915. On the 4th June 1915 he was sentenced to 21 days, No 2 Field Punishment for neglect of duty while a sentry. On the 25th October 1915 he embarked to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Balkans. While he was there he contracted malaria, he was treated in hospital and on the 30th August 1916 he was sent to Malta on Hospital Ship, Ghurka. He was admitted into Tigne Military Hospital on the 4th September 1916, reported to his family that he was dangerously ill on the 9th September and died on the 21st September 1916.
He had two brothers who served their country and survived the war. John Randall Private 8059,East Yorkshire Regiment, served in India and Arthur Enoch Private 9532 Royal Welsh Fusiliers, transferred on the 24th February 1916 to the Machine Gun Corps as Private 16399 then 16599.
