George William DIXON

George William DIXON. Private 164919, 506th Home Service, Employment Coy, Labour Corps, formerly Private 4050, 3/5th Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment). Born 1885 at Stapleford Nottinghamshire to George and Agnes Alice, nee Lyne. 1901 residing with his widowed mother and siblings at 31 Crompton Street, Ilkeston. 1911 residing with his mother, now called Agnes Glazebrook, (wife of Herbert) his siblings and stepbrother, Ernest Glazebrook at 31 Crompton Street, Hallam Fields, Ilkeston. He married Lucy Chambers in the registration district of Basford, Derbyshire Oct-Dec 1911. Resided with his wife at Ilkeston, Derbyshire. He joined the army 10 March 1915 at Derby and posted to the 3/5th Sherwood Foresters. 30 May 1915 he was transferred to the 5th Durham Light Infantry. He was then transferred 28 April 1917 to the Labour Corps. then to the Home Service Employment Coy, 504 Labour Corps and the to the 506 Home Service Employment Coy 14 September 1918. He was admitted into Red Cross Auxiliary Hospital 14 August 1918 and discharged to his unit 21 September 1918. 29 October 1918 he was admitted into Grimsby Military Hospital, suffering from influenza and pneumonia. He died at 9pm 2 November 1918, aged 33 year leaving his widow and three children. Ida Blanche, 9 October 1911, George William 28 October 1913 and Ellen May 9 May 1916. His widow was granted a war gratuity 5 April 1919, revised 15 November 1919. At rest in Park Cemetery, Ilkeston, Derbyshire.
