LEDLIE, George. killed in France 18th July 1916 aged 25. He was the son of William and Margaret (Maggie) of Ballyhalbert, County Down. He is commemorated on a family memorial is St Andrews graveyard, Ballyhalbert, County Down, Northern Ireland. There is no record for a George LEDLIE who fell in in the Great War.
The CWGC have the following. Lance Corporal (CWGC have Private) Private , S/20127 George LAIDLAW, 5th Cameron Highlanders, died on the 18th July 1916 aged 25. He was the son of W.M. Laidlaw of Ballyeasboro, County Down. The same location where the St Andrews church is located. In 1901 the family and George were all at 5, Ballyeasboro It appears that the CWGC had mess spelt the surname. UK, Army Registers of Soldiers\' Effects 1901 - 1929 shows the George Laidlaw was killed in action and that his mother, Maggie was awarded a War Gratuity on the 19th April 1917, revised on the 1st October 1919. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
