Gamecocks Concert Party BEF

This is a postcard signed by the person illustrated.

Sergt J F Franklin a comedian of Gamecocks Concert Party,British Expeditionary Force and dated 10 March 1918

The concert parties filled a variety of functions. The inclusion of some sketches clearly gave the troops a platform on which their grievances about food, conditions, sergeants, and officers were aired; they provided a safety-valve for a shared and sympathetic grumble. The theatre could aid recovery, claimed the doctors, and it brought some colour into the lives of the troops and reminded them of home.

I came into possession of this postcard and was over the moon with it. I found the subject matter very interesting but can find very little on the web regarding Gamecocks or the man himself. Does anybody have any information about Gamecocks concert parties or Sergt Jack Franklin ?

I will keep digging, so watch this space (Y)

Found this short British Pathe film clip

My Thanks to Kate Wills over at the Great War forum for the following information

Sgt Jack Franklin. He was a professional music hall artiste, who enlisted in the 18th Welsh Regiment. He may have fallen ill or been wounded at some point, because he was at No 5 Convalescent Depot Cayeux, because he performed with a concert party there called the Bing Bang Boys. By February 1917 he had transferred to 40th Divisional Train ASC. He was a regular performer in concert parties throughout the war, and his transfer to the ASC probably coincided with the formation of, or him joining, The Gamecocks.
