- G092 HAYDON MARRIOTT SUTHERLAND FORBES. DSC (k/a Forbes the Fearless) Lieutenant Commander Royal Navy on HMS Eagle. Born 16 December 1897 in New Zealand. Only child of Doctor Francis Cortney Sutherland and Eve Adrienne Blanch Forbes, nee Rookes (afterwards Farrington). Enlisted as Cadet 1914 promoted to Midshipman the same year. At the aged of 16 and Midshipman on battle ship HMS Cornwallis he was at the famous landing at V Beach, Gallipoli. Under heavy fire on the historic April 25, 1915, he assisted in securing the lighters and was awarded the DSC for his action for his part in the landing. Husband of Cecily Forbes, nee Armitage. Killed 9 June 1927 while carrying out bombing practice at Marsa, Scirocco, Malta (Marsaxlokk). He was sole occupant of a Fairey Flycatcher, No.402 Flight. Malta, he died from multiple injuries. He is commemorated on the Auckland War Memorial.
