- WALTER CUMMINGS. (FREDERICK ERNEST IS HIS CORRECT NAME ) ABLE SEAMAN 179587 ROYAL NAVY ON HMS CAESAR. BORN 5 FEBRUARY 1879 AT ABINGDON BERKSHIRE. ENLISTED 20 MAY 1894 OCCUPATION PRIOR TO ENLISTMENT FISHMONGER. DIED 7 APR 1902 AGED 23. FRACTURE OF SKULL BY FALLING THROUGH THE HAWSEPIPE INTO THE DRY DOCK (MEMORIAL HAS - BY FALLING INTO DRY DOCK WHILTS SURVEYING CABLE) IN 1881, AGED TWO HE WAS LIVING WITH HIS PARENTS FREDERICK AND JANE AND HIS SIBLINGS AT SPRING ROAD ABINGDON BERKSHIRE . HIS MOTHER WAS INFORMED OF HIS DEATH 14.4.02.
N.B. ON 1881 CENSUS HE IS NAMED AS FREDERICK ERNEST.
