F105 Caradoc JAMES. Able Seaman, P/JX297940 Royal Navy on HMS Nubian. Born 27 September 1923 at Crickhowell, Monmouthshire to Thomas Francis and Margaret James, of Cwm Celyn, Blaina, Monmouthshire. Killed 5th April 1943 aged 19 years as the result of an accidental explosion of a shell when one of the ships guns backfired during gunnery training exercise off Malta.

Thomas Francis JAMES fought and survived the Great War Pvt. 267481 Monmouth Regiment. He served for 4 and a half years, two and a half years in France, where he was badly wounded. He died 1936 Monmouthshire.

THOMAS FRANCIS JAMES of 30 Bryn-Heulog, Blaina, whose body was recovered from Waun-y-Pound pond, Ebbw Vale, on Friday, and who was buried at Brynmawr Cemetery on Wednesday. Deceased who was 43 was the son of Mrs and Mrs Frank James, 3 Perks Row, Nantyglo. He had served in the 3rd Mons throughout the Great War and was a member of Blaina Branch of the British Legion. A widow, five daughters, and two sons are left to mourn. Blaina and District Silver Band, under the conductorship of Mr J Probert, played the Dead March at the house and at intervals along the route to the cemetery. There were ex-Servicemen present from the Blaina, Nantyglo and Brynmawr branches of the British Legion. A detachment of the 3rd Mons were also present and provided the firing party and bearers. "The Reville" and "Last Post" were sounded. Adjutant Cheesley of the Salvation Army, officiated, and the hymn"Lead, Kindly Light" was sung at the graveside. The mourners were: Mr Frank James, father; Master Caradoc James, son; Messrs Gwilym James and Samuel James, brothers; Aneurin Howells, Sydney Price, Benjamin Dally, David Thomas, brothers-in-law; Sam James, Thomas Bevan, Thomas Pritchard, David Gwilym, uncles; Kenneth Thomas and Arthur James, nephews; Tom Bevan, Granville Bevan, Irvin Bevan, John Bevan, William Pritchard, William Gwillym, Tom Gwillym, Tom S Watkins, David Watkins, William Baynton, Idris Elms, cousins; and Mr Eddie Hillman. The mourners at the house were the widow; Misses Violet, Cereidwen, Beatty, Marguerite and Sally James, daughters; Master Brynmor James, son; Mrs D Thomas and Mrs S Price sisters; Mr B Powis, brother-in-law; Mrs B Powis, Mrs A Howells.

An open verdict of "Found drowned" was recorded by Mr W R Dauncey at an inquest at Ebbw Vale on Thomas Francis James, 43, an unemployed collier, of 30 Brynheulog-terrace, Blaina, whose body was recovered from a pond on the Waunypond Mountain, near Ebbw Vale, on Friday.
