Extended Description
F090 RAY VERNON HARVEY, Flight-Sergeant, Pilot, R/67086, Royal Canadian Air Force, attached 242 Squadron, at RAF Ta’ Quali. Born 2 March 1919 at Deseronto, Ontario to Alexander and Laura Harvey, of Deseronto, Ontario, Canada. Enlisted 16 August 1940 and posted to No 2 Manning Depot, Manitoba, Canada as observer. He had previously applied to join the air force 26 February 1940 but got no reply. He had previously served with Deseronto High School Cadets from 1932-1937. Killed while flying a Hurrican aircraft in action 1st March 1942 aged 22 years as the result of being shot down in by a German fighter aircraft, crashed into the sea off Kalafrana. He had bailed out into the sea burnt and mortally wounded, but when rescue arrived, he had passed away.
