Ernest William MOCATTA. Lance Corporal, Trumpeter) 523, 1st Imperial Light Horse. Born 6 July 1872 in Bengal, India, youngest of Major General Daniel, late B.S.C. and Georgina Lucinda Mocatta, nee Manning. Who was killed in action on Wagon Hill in the defence of Ladysmith, South Africa on the 6 January 1900 (aged 27) while serving as a Trooper in the Imperial Light Horse. When his Campaign Medal (Boer War) was issued is rank was recorded as L/Cpl. In remarks column, Killed at Wagon Hill. 1881 residing with his parents and siblings at 25 Wighton Roay, Penge, Surrey. Faithful unto death.

Commemorated on a memorial in St Mary Without the Walls, Chester also on the Sedbergh School Boer War Memorial
