Joined 25 September 1916 His residence on joining up was Nelsons Restaurant, Victoria Street, Auckland, occupation, motor mechanic. His next of was his sister, Miss Florence Todd of Clonavon, Antrim Road, Belfast, Ireland and his friend, Mrs Nelson of Nelsons Restaurant.
He embarked New Zealand with 05 Reserve Battalion on HMNZ T75, 19 January 1917, disembarking at Devonport 28 March 1917 and marched into Sling Camp, Sailsbury Plain, Wiltshire. On the 24 April 1917 his unit was taken on strength with 3rd Wellington Infantry Regiment at Codford camp, Sailsbury Plain. The May 1917 he and his unit embarked for France. He was awarded on the 30 July 1917 21 days Field Punishment No 2 and forfeits 21 days gross pay.
He was killed in action in the field 04 October 1917.
