Ernest Edward SOUTHAM. Private 17984, 2nd Royal Warwickshire Regiment killed in action on the 4th May 1917 aged 27. He was born in 1890 at Alderminster, Warwickshire to John and Sarah Ann who in 1911 were all living at 25, Alderminster, Warwickshire. He was then working as a gardener. In 1914 he married Elsie M Clarke and after her husbands death she was granted a War Gratuity on the 1st September 1917, revised on the 15th November 1919. This Poppy Cross Memorial at the time of this photo was on the Stratford on Avon W.W.1., War Memorial which is in the Chapel of Rest in Stratford on Avon Cemetery, Warwickshire. He is also commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.
