BENNETT Ernest. Private 26222, C. Coy 2nd Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Formerly Private 26876 3rd Gloucestershire Regiment. Born 1897 at Broadwell, Gloucestershire to Noah and Sarah Bennett Park Road, Chipping Campden. 1897-1911 residing with his parents at Watery Lane, Chipping Campden. 1911 occupation, bakers apprentice. He enlisted into the Gloucestershire Regiment 25 November 1915 aged 18 years and 300 days, occupation, baker and posted to the army reserve to await his mobilization. 28 March 1916 he was called to the colours and posted the Regimental Depot at Horfield Barracks, Horfield, Bristol where he was posted into 3rd Battalion as Private 2622. 8 July 1916 transferred to the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. He embarked from Devonport with 2nd Battalion for East Africa, disembarking at 29 September 1916. Embarked from Dar Es Salaam, East Africa for Suez 24 December 1916 on H.T. (Hired Transport) Disembarking 18 January 1917. Embarked Port Said, Egypt 18 May 1918, disembarking Marseille 27 May 1918. Killed in action 29 July 1918 age 21. His father was granted a war gratuity 31 October 1918, revised 10 May 1920. At rest in Raperie British Cemetery, Villemontoire, France.
