Elsie Alice DALGARNO. Nursing Sister 208105 QAIMNSR.
Born 30 October 1903 to Alexander and Mary Dalgarno, of Aberdeen.
Supplement to the London Gazette dated 19 December 1941.
Womens Forces. Emergency Commissions. Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Nursing Service Reserve.
The undermentioned to be Sister. 09 July 1941 Miss Elsie Alice Dalgarno.
Killed at sea on the 12th February 1944 aged 40 whilst on the SS Khedive Ismail. The ship departed on the 6 February 1944 from Kilindini Harbour at Mombasa, Kenya to Colombo, Ceylon in Convoy KR-8. It was attacked and sunk by two torpedoes fired from a B1 type Japanese submarine in the Indian Ocean, 200 miles south west of Ceylon. 1,297 perished.
Commemorated on the Brookwood 1939-1945 Memorial, Surrey.
