Elizabeth Jane LAND

Extended Description
Elizabeth Jane LAND. Daughter of Sergeant Major, Isaac Land, 12th Brigade, Royal Artillery and Harriet. Born in Ceylon and died at Malta 10th December 1873 aged 13. Her father was stationed at Fort Galle, Sri Lanka, Ceylon. At Rest in Ta Braxia Cemetery, Malta.

Sergeant Isaac LAND. Born in 1837 at Barnstaple, Devon, enlisted in the 1851 and joined the Royal Artillery as gunner. Fought in the Crimean War as gunner, the corporal 1119 with 6th Coy, 12th Battalion, Royal Artillery at Inkerman between the 1st October 1854 and 9th September 1855. Served in Ceylon during the Indian Mutiny, Malta, Ireland. Gained his commission in 1878 and retired in 1890 as Captain. He died at his residence 12 Andover Road, Southsea on the 22nd March 1922. His effects went to his daughter Beatrice Ellen Bussell, widow. He is at rest in Highland Road Cemetery, Southsea, Portsmouth.
He was married on the 11th February 1857 to Harriet Smith aged 26. at St Helier, Jersey. He was a Corporal aged 19 in the Royal Artillery and born at Barnstaple, Devon she was born in Sheffield.
1871 He is at Gun Wharf Barracks and Point at Portsmouth with his wife and five children, one being Elizabeth Jane.
1891 living at 42, Lawrence Road, Portsmouth with his wife and two daughters. Now retired army captain, Royal Artillery
1911 he is living at 12 Andover Road, Southsea, Portsmouth with his two daughters, , son in law and two grandchildren.

The undermentioned Quartermasters and Honorary
Lieutenants, Royal Artillery, have been granted the honorary rank of Captain:— Edgar Hambly. Dated 2nd May, 1888, Isaac Land. Dated 20th May, 1888.
London Gazette dated 11th April 1890. Quartermaster and Honorary Captain Isaac Land has been placed upon retired pay. Dated 9th April, 1890
