Edwin Andrew TROTMAN. Private 69285, 9th Cheshire Regiment, stationed at the Depot, died on the 8th November 1919 at home in Pedington near Berkeley, Gloucestershire, aged 20. He was born on the 29th September 1899 and baptised at All Saints, Stone, Gloucestershire. His parents were living at Pedington. In 1901 and 1911 he was still living with his parents at Pedington. He enlisted on the 18th September 1917 and posted to the Army Reserve to await his mobilization into the Gloucestershire Regiment. He was called to the Colours on the 25th May 1918 at Horfield Barracks, Bristol aged 18 and 8 months as private 51782. He lived at Pedington, near Berkeley, Gloucestershire with his parents John and Gertrude and by occupation he was a farm hand. After he had completed his training he was sent to France on the 25th September 1918 to join the 4th Battalion. On the 20th March 1919 he was transferred to the 9th Cheshire Regiment. In July 1919 he contracted trench fever in Germany and was sent to England for treatment on the 6th August 1919. While on his way to hospital he developed diphtheria he was admitted in Joyce Green Isolation Hospital, Dartford, and later to Bermondsey Military Hospital, Ladywell. On Saturday the 7th November 1919 he was given sick leave to his home at Pedington, the following evening 8th, at his home he committed suicide by shooting himself. The verdict of the inquest.
