Careless, Edward Richard, Private 86049, 33rd Machine Gun Corps died in the Great war 28th October 1918 aged 20. He was the son of William Henry and Martha Ann of 67, North Street, Castle Fields, Shrewsbury, Shropshire. Formerly employed at Shrewsbury Post Office.
Commemorated on a family memorial at Shrewsbury Cemetery, Shropshire and is buried at Awoignt Btitish Cemetery, France.
Some notes from what remains of his army record -
He enlisted 31st May 1916 aged 18 years and 1 month into the 3rd King's Shropshire Light Infantry as private 25543. He transferred into the Machine Gun Corps 12th February 1917 as Private 86049 at Grantham. He was sent to France from Folkestone 27th August 1917 and he disembarked the same day at Boulogne. 28th August he was at Base Depot, Camiers. 6th September he joined the 248th Coy, Machine Gun Corps from Base Depot (Dispersal Point). 26th October 1918 he was admitted at 101st Field Ambulance suffering from Influenza and he died 28th October 1918.
