- KNEE Edward John. Lance Corporal, 51166, 1st Garrison Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 37516, Worcestershire Regiment. Died 31st October 1917. Born at Warminster and enlisted at Devizes, both in Wiltshire, son of Henry. (His memorial states E T Knee)
Some notes from what remains of his army records. He joined up aged 24 years and 11 months. Lived at 71 West Street, Warminster and was a painter . He was posted to Worcestershire Regiment and on the 24th June 1917 transferred to the West Yorkshire Regiment. At some date unknown he was posted to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force. He fell ill and was invalided to a hospital Malta where he died on the 31st October of Lymphatic Leukemia.
BEWLEY Robert . Private, 21659, 29th General Hospital, Royal Army Medical Corps, died 25th October 1917, aged 45 years at St George's Military Hospital, Malta. The son of Robert Mason and Alice Bewley, of St. Helens, Lancashire. The husband of Elizabeth Ann Bewley, of 1 East Ordsall Lane, Salford, Manchester.
LYON James. Sergeant, 9485, 2nd Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment. Died 1st November 1917 at Malta . Son of Agnes who was granted a war gratuity on the 27th May 1918. Originally a war gratuity was granted to Alice Ann, (mother) on the 27th March 1918. This was crossed out, may have been a mistake. His father was called Thomas .
