This memorial is located in the Royal Oak Memorial Garden, at Coast Guard Station, Scapa Flow, Orkney Scotland.
The plaque was unveiled on the 100th anniversary of Dunning's Deck landing 2 August 1917
Squadron Commander Edwin (Harris) Dunning DSC RNAS.
July 1892 - August 1917.​
On 2nd August 1917 Lt Dunning took off from a RNAS Flying Field at Smoogro to make the first ever landing on the deck of a ship at sea.
Dunning made further successful landing on the foredeck of HMS Furious on the 7 August 1917, but later died that day attempting a third.
