DUPREE Leonard Aubrey, Section Commander, Newcastle-under-Lyme Home Guard, 15th Staffordshire Battalion, He was born on the 14th September 1895 to Charles Reuben and Maria Elizabeth. He died 11th October 1940 aged 44 and he was the husband of Kathleen ( Marguerite) nee Brown (who he married in 1920 at Brentford, Middlesex) of Sevenoakes, Kent. In 1896 at the age of 3 he was at Walton Road School, Hackney, with his brother. He served and fought in W.W.1. His army record show that he joined up on the 17th November 1915 at St Paul's Churchyard at the age of 20 years and 2 months. He was by occupation a Bank Clerk and lived with his parents Charles Reuben and Maria Elizabeth at 20, Navarino Road, Dalston, London. He served as Private 19956, with the 26th Royal Fusiliers in France. He was shot in his right foot on the 16th September 1916 and was treated at 38 Casualty Clearing Station, On the 18th September admitted to 28th General Hospital, Etaples. The 12th October 1916 he was sent to 6th Convalescent Depot, Etaples
He was discharged fit for duty on the 4th March 1917 and sent to 39th Infantry Base Depot Etaples to await for deployment to his unit, which he received on the 11th April 1917. He was once again wounded on the 10th June 1917. This time he was shot in his right eye which appears not to be severe. He was treated at 17th Casualty Clearing Station, transferred to 22nd General Hospital, Camiers . 10th July 1917 he was admitted again to 6th Convalescent Depot, Etaples. He was discharged fit for duty on the 11th August 1917 and sent to 39th Infantry Base Depot to await for deployment back to his unit in the field which he received on the 22nd August 1917. On the 21st November 1917 he was transferred to as Private 473389 Labour Corps He was promoted to lance corporal on the 28th February 1918 and corporal on the 25th September 1918. He was posted on the 31st January 1919 to 222nd Prisoner of War Company at Dieppe and on the 12th February 1919 he was sent to England and to report to Discharge Centre at Crystal Palace. He was demobilized to Class Z on the 18th March 1919 to his home in London. He is at rest in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Cemetery, Staffordshire.
