Donald William SMITH. Sergeant, Air Gunner (under training)1837100, Royal Air Force (VR) 29 O.T.U.(Operational Training Unit) stationed at Bruntingthorpe South Leicestershire
Born 1925 to Archibald James and Matilda Smith, nee Ruther of Ham, near Berkeley, Gloucestershire.
He was part crew of eight in a Wellington Bomber X MF314 which crashed Died as the result of and aircraft crash at Bruntingthorpe, South Leicestershire 17th May 1944 aged 19.
Laid to rest 23 May 1944 in Berkeley Cemetery, Berkeley, Gloucestershire.

The Wellington X MF314 of 29 OTU, which crashed near Mendham, 11 miles SW of Beccles, Suffolk on May 17th 1944. Left Bruntingthorpe at 11.25 for a navigational exercise, and dived out of cloud base and crashed at 12.15. All 8 crew killed, pilot was believe to have been a Lance Corporal, with two pupil pilots and a crew undergoing training.
