Not 100% sure about this picture, I have seen similar where troops are returning home at wars end. Perhaps these troops are returning home after the Dieppe Raid?

I`ve seen this one before and asked a partner of mine if he knew anything,a rather interesting story to say the least! The German higher echlons saw fit to reward the French citizens of Dieppe for not taking part in the Allied raid and released some or all of their French POW`s,so these guys are French soldiers and airmen!

Hmm so the French did not want to reclaim their country?
Perhaps in hindsight it was a shrewd move to not assist the Allies given the failure of the raid.
The harm it caused our Canadian Brothers should not be forgotten.

Twas called Operation Jubilee was it not?

...not a 100% on the Operation name but as you are well aware as are all of Canadians that this OP was a distraction for the real Operation that was going on in the town,to secure the Enigma code box!! They will never be forgotten!
