Sergeant 49375 David Quail Phenix. Royal Army Medical Corps.
Born 03 September 1883 to Trevor and Ann Eliza Phenix, nee McGuiggan at 08 Central Street, Castlereagh, Belfast.
1918 residing with his father at 30 Power Street, Belfast.
Died after discharge from the army 05 December 1918 aged 35 years at Belfast City Hospital, 51 Lisburn Road, Belfast of Influenza which he had for seven days and pneumonia, one day.
His father was granted a war gratuity 18 November 1919
At rest in Belfast City Cemetery, Belfast.
Some notes from his service records
Enlisted into the RAMC 12 October 1901 in Belfast aged 18 years, labourer. Joined at RAMC Depot, Aldershot 17th October 1901.
Whilst stationed in Egypt he extended his service for eight years on the 29 March 1904.
From 12 October 1901 to 16 February 1903, home service
12 March 1903 embarked for Egypt, disembarked Egypt 12 February 1909.
Home service from 13 February 1909 to 11 October 1913. Total service 12 years.
Re-enlisted on the outbreak of war. Stationed in Malta 05 February 1917.
He left Malta with the rank of Sergeant to join the British Salonika Force with 62nd General Hospital.
11 November 1917 embarked from Salonika for Italy, disembarking on the 18th at Taranto.
11 March 1918 admitted to 62 General Hospital, transferred to 57th General Hospital at Marseilles. 27th March 1918 embarked Marseilles on Hospital Ship, Western Australia suffering from Valvular Heart Disease, aortic mitral.
He was discharged physically unfit for duty.
