In memory of David J Whiteside. 1st July 1914 Battle of the Somme. N.J.

CWGC - David John WHITESIDE. Rifleman 5429, 2nd Royal Irish Rifles.

Born 29 March 1898 to David and Elizabeth Whiteside, nee Bell of 70 Mayo Street, Belfast. 1901 with his parents and siblings at 36 Barrack Hill, Armagh, County Armagh. 1911 with his parents and siblings at 32 Cranmore Street, Woodvale, Belfast. At the time of death his parents were residing at 58 Canmore Street, Belfast, Ireland. Died in action 5 May 1916 aged 19. His mother was granted a war gratuity 29 November 1916. His father was granted a war gratuity 6 September 1919. At rest in Ecoivres Military Cemetery, Mont-St-Eloi, Pas de Calais, France.

His birth was registered at David Whiteside.

This memorial flag was on display at the World Fallen (Temporary) Memorial on the 11 November 2018 at the National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas, Staffordshire
