Cyril Noel Mansell

Private Cyril Noel MANSELL. No. 7647 Royal Army Ordnance Corps
Died 22 December 1918.
Wounded 8 October 1917 in Belgium and died 22 December 1918 aged 22 after long suffering patiently born.

Son of John and Emma Mansell.

Some notes from what remains of his army records -
He joined up 20 May 1915 aged 19 years and 120 days, occupation tool maker. He was residing at 1 Brooklyn Terrace, Copthorne Road, Shrewsbury with his parents John and Emma and his siblings.
He was posted to the Army Ordnance Corps as Private 7647, embarked for France from Folkestone 16 May 1916 disembarking the same day in Boulogne. He was shot in the back on the front line 7 October 1917 and treated at No 3 Australian Field Ambulance transferred to No 2 Canadian General Hospital with with a perforated abdomen involving bladder and paraplegia caused by a bullet. He was invalided to a hospital in England 19 November 1917. 27 February 1918 he was discharged from the army as being no longer physically fit for war service.
At rest at Shrewsbury Cemetery, Shropshire.

Lance Corporal Walter Gordon MANSELL. Number 201226, 1/4th Bn. King's Shropshire Light Infantry.
Died 23 March 1918.
In 1911 he resided at 1 Brooklyn Terrace, Cophorne Road, Shrewsbury with his parents John and Emma and his siblings, occupation bank clerk. He married in 1917 Edith Muriel Rees. Commemorated on Arras Memorial, France.
