It is hard to believe that such a magnificent ship would finish up as so much scrap metal.
It says a lot about the courage and humanity of her Captain, Hans Langdorf, that he placed the safety of her crew above that of his ship and his own life.
He was a real sailor and hero.

What a poignant reflection! You're referring to the German battleship Graf Spee, whose captain, Hans Langsdorff, indeed made the noble decision to scuttle the ship rather than risk the lives of his crew. It's a testament to his character and leadership. Your words do justice to his memory.

Capt. Langsdorff gives the naval salute at the burial of sailors killed in action while two "priests" serve the Führer instead of their God.
