This is an image of the air field at Schwäbisch-Hall, Germany after an allied air raid, April 25, 1944. Six Heinkel He177A-3 of IV/KG100 were destroyed by allied bombers.
If you look closely you can see a crewman doing the smart thing and abandoning the aircraft via the dorsal hatch as it taxi's. http://www.ww2incolor.com/german-air-force/aet.jpg.html
Why would he jump from that aircraft? it doesn't look damaged or on fire?
Jumping from that height would require a greater degree of danger for me, I would have slid down to the tail so that when I jumped the tail didn't take my head off when i hit the ground
Gotta say there might be an element of Photoshop here too, just doesn't look natural
Being inside an aircraft taxiing on the taxi way in the middle of an airfield attack is a sure way to find out if there is a God however, after looking at the image over and over I believe you boys have got a very good point...... some smarta$#e has decided to "value add" for maybe dramatic purposes I reckon. I don't think it's crud on the image as it's too perfect and in just the right place, the image was quite exciting enough without buggering around with it.
