William Lovette Charles Lawrence GAUSSEN. Rifleman 6026, 11th Royal Irish Rifles.
Born 18 May 1885 in High Street, Holywood to William Lovette and Julia Emma Gaussen nee Bates His parents were married 5 April 1882 St St Bride Church, Liverpool.
1901 residing with his parents and siblings a 4 Lady’s Mile, Holywood.
1911 his widowed mother and siblings were residing at 11 Desmesne Road, Holywood, County Down. He is not recorded as being at this address.
Killed in action at the battle of the Somme, France 1 July 1916 aged 31.
The following were granted a joint war gratuity on the 15 May 1917. Brothers William Magill and James Frederick Herbert. Sisters Mrs Violet Emma Isabel Love, Mrs Nora Annie K Young and Dorothy May. 10 December 1919 his brother William M had his gratuity revised.
Commemorated on a family headstone in Holywood Cemetery, Holywood, County Down, Northern Ireland. Also commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
His brother Cecil Lovett Gaussen fought and survived the great war as Captain, Royal Army Medical Corps. His address was given as Inniskeen, High Street, Holywood
