Military Cross recommended by Lieutenant Colonel R Morton M.C. Commanding 2nd Cheshire Regiment. dated 20 August 1940
Citation.
“This officer commanded his company during the whole withdrawal from the R. (river) Dyle position with conspicuous ability. The Coy acted with Cavalry (The 13/18 Hussars) and 21st A/T. (Anti-Tank) Regiment as rear guard to the division. Capt Harington extricated his Coy from difficult positions in the face of the enemy after inflicting many casualties on them and it was due to his great coolness and skilful handling that his Coy completed the withdrawal with the loss of only one section.

His father was killed in action whilst commanding 84th Punjabis in Mesopotamia 8 March 1916 aged 48 years. Commemorated on the Basra Memorial, Iraq.
Lieutenant Colonel Herbert Hastings Harington who attended Malvern College and was killed in World War One on 08 March 1916. Killed in action in Mesopotamia.
