KNIGHT Charles Dudley. Lance Corporal, 2786, 1/5th, Essex Regiment, died 2nd October 1915.

McPHEE Archie. Private, 2026, 16th Battalion, Australian Infantry. Died of his wounds, 2nd October 1915.
Some notes from his army records. He joined up on the 22nd February 1915 aged 36 years and 2 months. He gave his next of kin a friend, Mrs N Suligan, of The Post Office, Katanning, Western Australia, later Mis Mary Jones of 38 Union Street, Subiaco, Western Australia as his next of kin. He was wounded in Gallipoli on the 27th August 1915. he received a shrapnel wound to his left thigh and was treated at No 4, Field Ambulance at Gallipoli. He was transferred to No16 Casualty Clearing Station, Mudros on the 28th August On the 4th September 1915 he was transferred to Malta on Hospital Ship, Devanha and was admitted into Tigne Hospital, Malta where he died of his wounds at 8.30am on the 2nd October 1915 and was laid to rest in Pieta Military Cemetery the same day. After his death it was discovered that he had a father, who was still alive and that his estate was to go to him. When contact was made it was discovered that his father was unaware that his son had joined the army, and that he had also changed his name. His correct name was Gustave Gunther and his father was Hermann Gunther of Calcoote, near Murray Bridge, South Australia. No explanation has been given as to why he charged his name from Gustave Gunther to Archie McPhee.
