CHAMBERS Alfred Ernest M.C.

CHAMBERS Alfred Ernest, B.A. M.C. Lieutenant, 26th Royal Fusiliers killed on the 29th October 1918 aged 22. He was the son of William and Mary of 26 Lancaster Road, South Fields, Leicester. He is commemorated on a memorial in Leicester Cathedral and he is at rest in Moorseele Military Cemetery, Wevelgem, Belgium.
He was a server of this church (intimate friend of Frank Meredith Tompson commemorated hereunder) who during the advance on the Scheldt was awarded the Military Cross for " gallantry, fine leadership, and contempt of danger" in which he volunteered deed od bravery he gave up his young life of high endeavour of the unseen. This memorial along with the memorial of (Frank Meredith Tompson) was removed from St George's Church Leicester and was placed here (Leicester Cathedral) at the desire of Gordon C Tompson brother of Frank M Tompson. In child hood they were choristers together of St Martin's
