CARR George

Lance Corporal 14986, George CARR, 9th Border Regiment died 14th February 1919 aged 30.
Extended Description
He was the son of Thomas and Sarah Mary of 17, Ashford Road, Scotforth, Lancaster. He is at rest in St Mary's churchyard, Kirkby Lonsdale Westmorland, Cumbria. Some notes from remains of his Army Record. He joined up on the 10th September 1914 at Carlisle, Cumbria and posted to the Depot. He gave his age as 26 yrs and 5 months lived at Sellett Hall, Kirkby Lonsdale working as a farm labourer. His father, Thomas was his next of kin and he lived at 8, Vicarage Lane, Kirkby Lonsdale. He embarked Southampton from France on the 3rd September 1915 On the 29th September 1915 he was promoted to Lance Corporal On the 30th October 1915 he embarked Marseilles for Salonica. On the 17th April 1918 he was admitted to 50th General Hospital, Salonica with a heart condition. The 18th June 1918 he is transferred to England on Hospital Ship Balmoral Castle bound for Malta. He was admitted to Military Hospital, Valetta with Cardiac Dilation. He left Malta (date not found) and was admitted Southwark Military Hospital, East Dulwich, London E.C.22 on the 11th January 1919 and he died at 2.30am on the 14th February 1919 aged 30 of (1) Dilated Heart (2) Pneumonia On the 16th December 1918 he reverted back to Private.
