Burnaby Thomas SHERWOOD

Burnaby Thomas SHERWOOD, died 12th May 1963 aged 73. He is at rest with his wife Evelyn in St Matthew\'s Churchyard, Salford Priors, Warwickshire. He served his country in the Great War with the Warwickshire and Worcestershire Regiments.
Some notes from what remains of he army record.
He enlisted on the 25th November 1915 and was posted to the army reserve to await his mobilisation. He lived with his wife and children at Iron Cross, Salford Priors, and was employed as a market gardener. He married his wife, Evelyn nee Threadgold on the 7th January 1913 at St George Church, Redditch, Worcestershire. On the 22nd June 1918 he was called to the colours and he was posted to the Regiment Depot as Private R/57775, 10th Warwickshire Regiment. After he had completed his training he and many others were posted to join his regiment in France. He embarked from Folkstone on the 20th October 1918 and disembarked the same day at Boulogne, and then marched into the Infantry Base Depot. On the 22nd he joined the 1st Warwickshire Regiment at Rouen, a few days later on the 25th he was permanently transferred to the 1/8th Worcestershire Regiment and was allotted a new army number, 59466. He left France on the 4th February 1919. He was demobilised on the 5th March 1919 to his wife and children at Iron Cross..
At some stage in his military life he was wounded. There is no record of what wounds he received but he was awarded and entitled to wear the Gold Wound Stripe. It was made of Russian gold braid. It was two inches long and was sewn perpendicularly on the left sleeve. If he was wounded again on a separate occasion he was awarded the stripe which was sewn either side of the original, with a half inch space.
