A braver man than I to rely on that useless bit of kit

I had the privilege to speak with a Canadian Vet who was in the Normandy campaign,
in those narrow tree laden backroads when someone yelled "Tiger",everyone scattered while this Vet grabbed the piat and two rounds and ran out into the middle of the street,loaded and fired course he said he did that deliberately to make the Jerry think that he was firing a useless weapon,then he loaded again and waited until the tank was right on top of him and fired the second round. He said the closeness between him and the Tiger helped greatly cause he hit it right in the turret ring and took it out.His reasoning for such a stunt was somebody had to do something!
I shutter to think how close he really was to be effectivebut he survived!!
