MARKLEW Bertram James. Private 3/5607, 3rd Connaught Rangers, died 10th October 1919 aged 33. In 1911 he was living with his wife and child Stanley aged 1 year at 39, Dartmouth Street, Burslem, Staffordshire, and by occupation was a grocers porter. Their daughter, Dorothy was living with his widowed mother, Mary Louisa Marklew at 53, Dartmouth Street, Burslem. His late father was called William. He is buried in an unknown location (no record must not have been taken of its location at the time of burial) in Christ Church, churchyard, Alsager, Cheshire. Some notes from what remains of his army record. He enlisted on the 8th April 1915 in Stoke on Trent, aged 28 and a grocers porter. He was living with his wife Lily, nee Stanier and their daughter Dorothy, born at Burslem 23rd December 1908. They were married 7th June 1908 at Old Church, Burslem, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire and were residing at 12 Joseph Street, Burslem. This address was crossed out and it was replaced with Chancery Lane, Alsager.. On the 26th July 1916 he was posted to Salonica, Greece. On the 5th November 1917 he was sent back to his Depot. On the 18th November 1917 while at the Depot he was on a Medical Board. He was discharged to pension. "No longer physically for war service under Para 392 (XVI) Kings Regulations. He had Tubercle Lung (TB).
He is at rest in Christ Church, churchyard, Alsager, Cheshire
