- Bertram (Bertie) Edgar SMITH. Officers Steward 1st Class 363090, Royal Navy on HMS Iron Duke. Born 8th January 1878 at Portsmouth, Hampshire enlisted 7th December 1904 on HMS Cumberland occupation prior to enlistment, Private Po/8539 Royal Marine Light Infantry, Portsmouth Division enlisted 14th May 1896. In 1911 he was residing with his wife Bessie Beatrice nee Cade and his daughter aged 1 year at 94th North End Avenue, Portsmouth, occupation ships steward Royal Navy. Died 24th February 1926 of fatty degeneration of the heart, alcoholism, self inflicted injury to right wrist and cardiac failure aged 52 years.
